Jerolyn Dirks earned a degree in fine arts from the University
of California at Los Angeles. During her career in illustration – she
was known for images created for PetSmart stores, Iams Corporation and
The American Humane Association.
She has lived and painted for the past two
decades on a small farm north of Bozeman, Montana. In 2008 the artist
switched to oils and plein-air painting.
After 18 years as an illustrator in watercolor. This change of
direction was a catalyst for a whole new body of work.
“Painting on
location - I’m faced with the directness of nature and the immediate
impression of each subject. There will always be conditions beyond my
control - but it’s that element of surprise I love.” A new love is
floral painting. Like plein air painting – part of the fun is the
chase. Trying to capture the fleeting gesture of a flower before it’s
gone.
For several seasons -
Jerolyn studied landscape painting with Idaho artist Robert Moore. She
has also studied still life and floral painting with artists Jeff Legg,
Elizabeth Pruitt Robins and Laura Robb. Fall of 2012 - the artist will
travel to Maine to paint and study with T. Allen Lawson.
Jerolyn has participated in juried and invitational shows including the
American Impressionist Society National Juried Exhibition, Plein Air on
the Yellowstone (People's Choice Award) American Women Artist National
Juried Competition, National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society Juried
Exhibition, Western Master's Auction, Great Falls, Montana,
C.M Russell Stampede Quick Draw, Stanford, Montana
and the upcoming 2012 Salon International Juried Exhibition at
Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio
Jerolyn is a member of the Glacier Park Artist Society. Her artwork
